If you own a home in Cuyahoga County, two property tax increases look headed your way. (developmental disabilities) and (health and human services) each had more than 60% of the vote Wednesday morning, according to unofficial results.

Cleveland.com's early count of mail and early in-person ballots had Issue 10 at 65% and Issue 11 at 63%. County Executive Chris Ronayne has said HHS-funded departments would need to cut budgets by at least 8% next year without Issue 11.

Issue 10 is the first property tax increase since 2005 for the board that provides housing support, clinical and mental healthcare, education and job training. CEO Amber Gibbs said, "We have gone 21 years without asking voters for more money."

  • Issue 10: 2.25 mills for 10 years
  • Issue 11: current 4.7 mills renewed and raised to 7.2
  • Issue 11 total: $196 per $100,000, almost $262 million a year

Browns

The Browns' run defense is the worry after a 27-6 loss in Pittsburgh

If you caught Sunday's game, it wasn't pretty. The Steelers beat the Browns 27-6 in Pittsburgh and took over first place in the AFC North, and coach Todd Monken called it "a good learning lesson for this young team."

The bigger worry is the run defense. Cleveland gave up 183 rushing yards to Tennessee and 200 to Pittsburgh, and beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot said teams have "somewhat of a blueprint for how to beat the Browns." The Saints will have had a bye to study the film.

  • Record: Browns 5-3, Steelers 6-2

Glenville

A Cuyahoga County judge ordered Glenville reinstated to the Division III football playoffs Tuesday, ruling the acted arbitrarily when it removed the Tarblooders before finishing its investigation into the eligibility of 10 players. The order has the OHSAA determine Salem's opponent, either by rescheduling Glenville's game with University School, declaring University School forfeited, or another remedy. The OHSAA said it will challenge the order in appellate court in Cleveland on Wednesday morning, and more information on Salem's opponent is due Wednesday. WYSOWFMJMorning Journal

Road Salt

Northeast Ohio public agencies buying Morton Salt through the state's winter contract can seek extra costs from qualifying late deliveries, such as substitute salt, extra trucking and staff overtime.
